#7: Rachaad White (TB), ADP 59.8, RB14
I’ve been vocal this summer about not loving White’s draft cost. His efficiency numbers are highly concerning. But, they say volume is king for running backs, and White certainly got a lot of touches last year. Only Derrick Henry had more carries, and White ranked 4th in receptions and 2nd in overall routes. He had the 3rd most receiving yards at the position too. So, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some consistent PPR production out of him. If he falls to me in the 6th, I think about it. In the 7th, I’m taking the value.
#6: Aaron Jones (MIN), ADP 82.3, RB21
I actually think Jones is in for a bit of a career revival in Minnesota. According to recent reports, he’s healthy and motivated, looking like a stud in team workouts. The Vikings had a poor RB situation last year, and they are definitely leaning on Jones to improve it. Plus, at the end of the season he really got it rolling for the Packers. He had at least 116 scrimmage yards in 5 straight games to end the year, including in the playoffs against tough defenses. So, I’m looking for that momentum to continue.
#5: Joe Mixon (HOU), ADP 63.2, RB16
Mixon did dip in rushing efficiency last season, but made up for it in the passing game. He was 9th in receptions (52), and 12th in receiving yards (376). I’m skeptical that he’ll see that kind of target share again, as he outpaced the top 4 Texans backs combined in 2023. But, he still slots in as the starting back on one of the league’s rising offenses with a competent young QB at the helm. So, he should return RB2 numbers.
#4: David Montgomery (DET), ADP 69.4, RB17
We all love Jahmyr Gibbs, but Montgomery isn’t going anywhere, at least for this season. He had just the 28th-ranked opportunity share, but he was the primary red zone back for the Lions. He was 5th in the NFL in red zone touches, and scored 13 touchdowns in 14 games. That offensive line is still one of the best in the league. The knock on Monty is that Gibbs has a lock on the team’s passing work. Still, you can produce great numbers as Detroit’s goal line guy. Just ask Jamaal Williams.
#3: James Conner (ARI), ADP 75.1, RB19
Conner is dependable, and no one seems to care. He was a respectable 13th in fantasy points per game for a Cardinals’ team that should be much improved in 2024, with the addition of Marvin Harrison Jr. In fact, Conner topped 22 points in 3 of his last 4 games last year and was still credited with the 8th-best juke rate and 7th-best breakaway run rate. He’s trustworthy as a RB2, and you can get him for cheap in drafts.
#2: Alvin Kamara (NO), ADP 71.8, RB18
Kamara finished 3rd in PPR points per game last year. While his yards per carry numbers have fallen off in recent years, his passing game work was extremely valuable. He was 2nd in target share (19.3%), and 4th in yards per route run (1.73). But the best thing for Kamara’s outlook recently was the news that Kendre Miller would open the season on IR. So, anyone worried about Miller taking opportunity away can rest easy, at least early in the year.
