Target: Puka Nacua (LAR), ADP 11.7, WR8
After a record-setting rookie season during which he finished 5th in yards after the catch, Pukaās first round draft tag is legit. His 28.7% target share ranked 11th. But, that was even accounting for Cooper Kuppās 59 receptions over 12 games since his return from injury. So, Puka is now the Rams WR1 and will see the work to maintain that status.
Fade: Jaylen Waddle (MIA), ADP 20.1, WR14
Letās be clear: this is not about Waddleās talent. Heās just going too early for a guy who is never going to get a productive target share. Tyreek Hillās has been in the neighborhood of 10% more over the last 2 seasons. Miamiās dynamic backfield duo of Achane and Mostert can eat into that work too. Waddle will turn in some spike weeks, but heāll also give you some very quiet ones. So, I think Round 2 has better values elsewhere.
Target: Malik Nabers (NYG), ADP 24.9, WR17
Nabers is my favorite rookie target this summer. I like his situation because the Giants will likely have to throw the football a lot. Nabers handled 31% of his teamās targets in 2023, which is far more than anyone else could handle on the Giants. But, heāll need a better version of Daniel Jones if heās going to be worth the pick. Weāll know more about that once the preseason rolls on. Either way, I think Nabers will get a lot of work immediately.
Avoid: Davante Adams (LV), ADP 21.5, WR15
It feels wrong to advise people to avoid drafting Davante. But, the Round 2 Risk is very real here. His fantasy points per game numbers have declined for 4 straight years now, and in 2023 they fell to their lowest point since 2016. Yes, a lot of that is QB play. And as of now, the Raiders will start either Aidan OāConnell or Gardner Minshew under center. That doesnāt instill a lot of confidence in a 31-year-old.
Target: Drake London (ATL), ADP 15.1, WR10
Iām buying the Falconsā hype this year, even if it could blow up in my face. London should be the biggest beneficiary of having a QB who attempted 9 more passes per game than the Falcons, and threw for MORE touchdowns despite appearing in just 8 games. London also has a new coach who has vowed to get the ball to his best playmakers. So, Iām feeling good about London if heās on the board in the 2nd round.
Avoid: DK Metcalf (SEA), ADP 28.4, WR21
Monster athleticism is Metcalfās trademark. It usually leads to an entertaining highlight reel. But, I have concerns about him this season. First of all, Geno Smith was 16th in total passing yards, but ranked 30th in accuracy rating. Heās had one solid year in a career that spans back to 2013. Then you have the others in the WR room. Tyler Lockett typically performs on-par with Metcalf. Jaxon Smith-Njigba will command a higher target share in Year 2. So, DK will suffer the hits and continue to be overvalued in drafts.
