Rachaad White (TB), ADP 44, RB11

White had good raw numbers, but they were built on volume and definitely not efficiency. Despite ranking 2nd in total carries, White finished 13th in rushing yards. His true yards per carry ranked 57th at just 3.5. He ranked 23rd in juke rate and 45th in breakaway run rate.

But, it may not be so easy to earn the crazy volume in 2024. Tampa’s rookie 4th rounder, Bucky Irving, ranks higher than White in the elusiveness metrics. So, I’m not putting much faith in him to continue producing at the RB1 level. The draft capital is too high. Say away.

Jonnu Smith (MIA), ADP 184.5, TE21

I do not understand the optimism around Smith in Miami. Sure, the guy has receiving chops and has flashed at times in fantasy football in his career. But, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins didn’t target their tight ends very often last season. Their leading player at the position, Durham Smyth, was 31st in target share. In 2022 it was Mike Gesicki, who ranked 30th in target and air yard share. See the pattern?

But, the counter to that is that Jonnu ranked 8th in yards per reception, 7th in yards after the catch, and 12th in yards per route run. So, there is some efficiency there from the player. I just don’t know where he’s going to find the volume.

Josh Jacobs (GB), ADP 47.3, RB12

Jacobs falls directly into the dreaded running back dead zone for me. He’s been a good fantasy back for a few years now, and a new situation is often exactly what a player might need to revive his chances. Green Bay isn’t the worst place to do it, with a team on the rise and a handsomely paid quarterback.

But, Jacobs looks like he lost a step. He had his lowest rushing total of his career and ranked 58th in fantasy points per opportunity. So, get your top RBs before this point in your drafts and wait to find the better value in later rounds for your RB2.

Jordan Addison (MIN), ADP 94, RB51

Look no further than the games Minnesota played without Kirk Cousins to get a feel for how Addison might progress this season. After Week 9, Addison had just one standout week and failed to crack the top-20 in all the others. Addison will have to rely on Sam Darnold early in the year and possibly rookie J.J. McCarthy later on. I’m not sure those guys have enough firepower to support both Justin Jefferson and Addison. We all know who will attract most of those targets.

But, managers are drafting Addison anywhere from the 5th to the 8th round. It’s too early. So, be aware of the shaky QB situation before you go there.

Anthony Richardson (IND), ADP 61.3, QB5

Don’t get me wrong. Richardson showed promise as a rookie. He averaged 34 rushing yards per game which would have ranked 5th over the season. He should take another step forward this year. But, why are we drafting him as the QB5 after just 4 professional games?

Quarterbacks are already overvalued in fantasy football, and it’s tough enough using a high draft pick on someone like Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson. This is just too shaky of a pick this high in drafts for me to feel good about it. There’s too much that could go wrong.
