If you want to get an edge on your league mates, know how to approach these running backs…

Target: Breece Hall (NYJ), ADP 5.3

After a slower start in 2023, Breece made a lot of managers happy down the stretch. He averaged 20 touches per game after Week 5 and did damage in the fantasy playoffs, finishing as a top-3 fantasy RB in 3 of the last 4 weeks of the season. But, he was equally terrific in the passing game, finishing 1st in targets, 1st in receiving yards, 3rd in yards per route run, and 4th in targets per route run.

So, the return of Aaron Rodgers should allow Breece to continue those receiving stats. I also think the whole offense will be better, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hall crush his 2023 rushing total of 996 yards. He’s a strong mid-to-late first round pick.

Fade: Rachaad White (TB), ADP 38.3

White’s high volume makes him a realistic RB2. Only Derrick Henry had more carries than White in 2023, and his passing game participation can’t be ignored. He was RB4 overall in receptions and 2nd in overall routes run. He was also 3rd in total receiving yards.

But, White’s rushing efficiency leaves something to be desired. He was 14th in rushing yards despite being 2nd in carries. He ranked 34th in fantasy points per opportunity and 57th in true yards per carry. So, I think there are better values out there around his ADP.

Target: Saquon Barkley (PHI), ADP 16.0

Saquon has been a top-10 fantasy back in each of the last two seasons in fantasy points per game with the Giants. Now his situation is even better.

The Eagles boast a top-5 offensive line, which Barkley has never had before. They finished 2023 in the top third of the league in rushing production. Sure, the presence of Jalen Hurts does appear to cap some of the red zone upside. But, I still think this will be an improved situation for Saquon. So, his 2nd-round ADP is just right.

Fade: Josh Jacobs (GB), ADP 36.5

In some ways Jacobs has a better outlook now that he’s on an exciting young Green Bay offense. The Packers seem to be building toward something bigger after that fun playoff run.

But, Jacobs has questions around his production. Just 5 of his 12 healthy games ended in a top-12 fantasy score. He was 58th among qualifying RBs at 0.63 fantasy points per opportunity. He had the lowest total yardage output of his entire career. He also has to contend with A.J. Dillon and MarShawn Lloyd for carries. The latter has recently drawn praise and may get some time early. So, Jacobs is a bit too risky at the end of the 3rd round.

Target: James Conner (ARI), ADP 57.5

Conner gets bell cow volume. Even with new arrival Trey Benson joining the Cardinals, Conner should remain steady for fantasy teams. Last season, he was 13th in points per game for a lousy offense missing its QB for much of the season.

But, the most surprising thing about the veteran is how elusive he still is at this point of his career. He was credited with the 8th-best juke rate and the 7th-best breakaway run rate. So, he can definitely be trusted as a solid RB2 in your draft.

Fade: Rhamondre Stevenson (NE), ADP 52.8

Last season was a let down for Rhamondre backers such as myself. He’s a really good runner who has been breaking tackles for a couple of seasons now. But, he was banged up for a lot of last season for a bad offense. He ended as 27th in fantasy points per game.

The Patriots do rely on him quite a bit in the passing game. But, that could change this season with the signing of Antonio Gibson. He’s a player who seems to offer the most utility in that area of the offense anyway. So, even though Rhamondre is far more talented than Gibson, I’m a little nervous about going with him in fantasy drafts this season.
