Josh Allen (BUF), ADP 27.3

There are good reasons Allen is going as the top quarterback in this year’s drafts. He’s been THE QB1 in 3 of the last 4 seasons, and he hasn’t averaged fewer than 24.2 fantasy points per game since 2019. Obviously there is massive rushing upside here. Allen had the 2nd-most red zone carries in 2023, which led to 15 touchdowns, the league’s best. He ended up 4th in passing yards and 5th in passing TDs.

But, Buffalo just said goodbye to their top-2 WRs in Stefon Diggs and Gabirel Davis this offseason. The position looks slightly weaker now. Additionally, those 15 rushing TDs are bound to come down slightly. Even with those risks baked in, Allen has been too consistent for too long to be counted out. So, if you want to chase the top-QB, be prepared to shell out your 3rd pick.

Lamar Jackson (BAL), ADP 38.3

Lamar earned his 2nd league MVP award last season. It was business as usual on the ground. He led all QBs in rushing yards at 821, and added 5 scores with his legs to boost him to the fantasy QB4 in scoring.

But, it was Jackson’s development as a passer that really puts him on QB1 watch in 2024. He reached career highs in passing yards (3,678), and completion percentage (67.2%). Odell Beckham is no longer in Baltimore, but early reports are touting Rashod Bateman’s play in camp. And Zay Flowers should take a developmental step forward too. If Mark Andrews can find a way to stay healthy, this team looks dangerous and Lamar’s ceiling is nonexistent.

Patrick Mahomes (KC), ADP 27.9

Mahomes is the only QB besides Allen with a top fantasy season in the last 4 years. He accomplished it in 2022, when he averaged a stellar 25.2 points per game. Unfortunately, last season didn’t go as well for Mahomes. He had career lows in passing yards per game, and his lowest touchdown output since 2019, the year he only played in 14 games.

But, we all know what Mahomes is capable of. The team added Hollywood Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy to strengthen the WR room next to Rashee Rice. Travis Kelce is still the best tight end in the game. And we’ve been watching Mahomes do incredible things for 6 seasons now. So, until the dip in numbers becomes a trend, he could still take the top spot.

Jalen Hurts (PHI), ADP 32.7

Hurts was QB2 last year, but he’s probably got the shakiest odds on this list to finish on top. Even more so than the next guy. Hurts saw his average points per game drop from 25.6 in 2022 to 21.9 last season. The arrival of Saquon Barkley may also take away some of those red zone carries that Hurts is so good at executing.

But, the rushing upside is too good to ignore:

  • 1st in carries (157)

  • 1st in rushing TDs (15)

  • 3rd in rushing yards (605)

Not to mention he still has A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith running routes. And a top-notch offensive line. So, Hurts still has a shot to take the crown this season.

Kyler Murray (ARI), ADP 87.9

With all due respect to Anthony Richardson — who is being drafted as the QB4 — we just haven’t seen enough of him to justify a QB1 ceiling. So, I’m looking at Murray to bust back out of the gates in a big way. He had finishes as the QB3 and QB4 in fantasy points per game in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately he’s been slowed down by his knee injury the last 2 seasons.

But, according to Cardinals’ reporters, Murray is a full-go in summer workouts and he’s recovered some of his lost speed from the last few seasons. The team has specifically addressed its WR position by drafting Marvin Harrison Jr., and Trey McBride’s emergence at tight end will give them even more firepower to work with. So, Kyler Murray is my dark horse candidate to lead the position in fantasy. He’ll be a lot cheaper in drafts, so make him your target for a sneaky good roster build.
