Keep them on your bench

Week 4 Sits

Here are 5 players you should really consider sitting in fantasy this week … in two minutes or less.

QB: Aaron Rodgers (PIT) vs. MIN

Rodgers may have salvaged Week 3 with a pair of touchdowns, but his passing yardage was limited again and now he draws a Vikings defense that has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks so far. Pittsburgh’s slow, low-volume offense only makes the problem worse, with Rodgers operating behind an offensive line still full of question marks. So even with his name recognition, this is a week to keep him on the bench rather than risk another capped fantasy outing.

RB: David Montgomery (DET) vs. CLE

David Montgomery is coming off a monster Week 3, but volume gives us nuance: Jahmyr Gibbs out-touched him 36 to 23 across the last two games. And while Montgomery can always pop a big run, this week’s matchup is a nightmare: Cleveland has allowed the fewest rushing yards to running backs and the second-fewest fantasy points to the position through three weeks. So even if Detroit feeds both backs, the efficiency cliff is real here, and that makes Montgomery a risky play you’re better off leaving on the bench.

RB: D’Andre Swift (CHI) @ LV

D’Andre Swift is coming off a rough Week 3 where he turned 13 carries into just 33 rushing yards, and that inefficiency on the ground has been a theme all season at 3.5 yards per carry. He may be the lead back in Chicago, but this week he draws a Raiders defense that has completely shut down running backs through the air, giving up only 62 receiving yards to the position across three games. Swift relies heavily on his receiving work to mask poor rushing efficiency, so if Las Vegas keeps backs bottled up in the passing game like they have, Swift’s floor collapses and he becomes a player you’re better off sitting in Week 4.

WR: Tee Higgins (CIN) @ DEN

Higgins has yet to top 60 yards in a game this season, and last week he bottomed out with just 15 yards on two targets in a blowout loss. But while you’d normally expect a bounce-back from a receiver of his caliber, the problem is he runs into a Denver defense that has allowed the 8th-fewest fantasy points to WRs this year and just smothered opponents with sacks and turnovers. So with Higgins struggling to earn volume and facing one of the toughest secondaries in the league, this is not the spot to trust him.

WR: Jameson Williams (DET) vs. CLE

Williams is always a threat to rip off a big play, but last week he saw just three targets and turned them into two catches for 43 yards… solid efficiency, but not enough volume to trust. Now he runs into a Browns defense that has already locked down opponents and just held Green Bay to 142 passing yards in Week 3. Williams can flip a game on one long catch, but his inconsistent usage paired with Cleveland’s disciplined secondary makes him a risky bet this week.

So that’s the list. 5 players you shouldn’t rely on in Week 3… as promised, in 2 minutes or less.
