San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles (+3)
Even though a lot of DFS action is going toward the Miami-Commanders game, but from a football standpoint, it’s tough to beat a matchup between the two NFC powerhouses. The Eagles at home have been part of some terrific football. Games in their stadium are averaging 59.4 combined points per game, which is the highest in the league.
On the 49ers side, that 3-game losing streak feels like it happened seasons ago. The fears about Brock Purdy have subsided and he’s back to playing crazy efficient ball and getting his team back to scoring 30 points per week.
Fantasy Life’s Game Hub for this matchup doesn’t show too many areas of mismatch for these two. In terms of rankings the 49ers might find a slight edge in total passing yards, but otherwise this one should be fun to watch. As always, let’s go through the players that will be relevant for stacking on DraftKings.
QB: Brock Purdy (SF)
The Eagles’ defense has surprisingly allowed the fantasy QB1 or QB2 in 3 of their last 4 games, but a lot of that is the result of volume more than talent or poor play. When teams play them, they average 41.5 passing attempts, which is the highest total in the league.
Purdy is all about the efficiency. He doesn’t throw a ton because when he does throw, he’s completing them at a 70% rate and they’re going for 11 yards a pop. If he combines the efficiency with potential higher volume, he’s the play this week.
If you’re looking to stack this game, Purdy’s salary gives you a little more flexibility than you’d get by using Jalen Hurts, so you’ll be able to fit in other big names from this game.
QB: Jalen Hurts (PHI)
Last week we saw a far more mobile Hurts than we’ve seen in a while due to his leg injury. His running numbers are down overall from 2022, but those “tush-push” TDs have made up for it. Last week he showed some explosiveness with 2 ground TDs.
The 49ers are strong against the pass, but you could still get there with Jalen’s legs. Just be aware that the salary difference over Purdy makes him a little more appealing in smaller fields.
WR: Brandon Aiyuk (SF)
Talent-wise, Aiyuk has proven he’s one of the elite receivers in the game of football. He’s 2nd in the NFL in yards per route run behind just Tyreek Hill. That’s no joke.
Aiyuk runs most of his routes on the outside, which is where we want to target the Eagles. They allow 9.6 receptions per game, a 7.7% TD rate, and 28.2 PPR points per game to outside receivers. Gabe Davis even got it going against them.
The Eagles also have a penchant for playing a lot of man coverage, which Aiyuk absolutely eviscerates. Against man, he’s averaging 4.2 yards per route run and has 30% of the team’s targets.
RB: Christian McCaffrey (SF)
Tough to talk about this game and not mention CMC. He’s always got multiple ways to get there and he’s always a threat to score. Recently the Eagles have given up some production to their opponents’ RBs, and we just saw Buffalo try to attack their linebackers.
Watch the ownership numbers, try to balance the salary, but McCaffrey could always hit the big one.
WR: A.J. Brown (PHI)
We can’t be totally sure how the 49ers will defend the Eagles, but they do play a healthy amount of cover-4 — the third most in the league. Against such looks, Brown leads his team with 32.8% of the targets and 60% of the air yards.
It’s not much worse against cover-3. When he sees that coverage, he has 32% of the targets and 53% of the air yards. So, I’m taking my chances with Brown, especially considering he looks to carry a sub-5% ownership.
There are lots of reasons why football is so enjoyable, but sweating your bets has to be the best part. Good luck today!
