Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5)
On paper this looks like a fun game. With all the star power between these two teams, there’s always the potential for fireworks. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are two of the biggest QB stars in the league and typically push each other whenever they take the field together.
The game hub from Fantasy Life shows some favorable conditions for the running games of both sides, but some injuries could complicate things. So let’s talk about the guys in this one from a DFS point of view.
TE: Travis Kelce (KC)
Any matchup with the Bills has to start with Kelce, who has just terrorized Buffalo in the past. Check out some of this games:
5 catches, 65 yards, 2 TDs
13 catches, 118 yards, 2 TDs
6 catches, 57 yards, 1 TD
8 catches, 98 yards, 1 TD
It’s going to be the most expensive play at TE no matter how you slice it, but if you can jam him in, it should pay off.
WR: Rashee Rice (KC)
Rice has emerged as the no. 1 WR for Kansas City over the last few weeks. He’s earned about 30% of the team’s targets in the last 2 games, each time setting his season-high in route participation.
Despite all that, his price on DraftKings really hasn’t risen, so you’re getting a good fit.
QB: Patrick Mahomes (KC)
As talented as Mahomes is as a real-life QB, I’m not totally sure he’s on the board this week for upside. He’s only got 2 games this season of scoring in the top 6 QBs, and those games came against the Bears and Chargers, much more vulnerable defenses than the Bills.
The fantasy ceiling just doesn’t justify the cost for me this week.
RB: Jerick McKinnon (KC)
With Isiah Pacheco not on track to play, McKinnon is my preferred Chiefs’ RB. The reason being all the designed pass plays the team likes to run in the red zone.
The Bills have the best defensive success rate against RB running plays since week 7, allowing just over 3yards per carry during that span. It makes Clyde Edwards-Helaire less appealing than McKinnon.
QB: Josh Allen (BUF)
Allen, as opposed to Mahomes, has been a top-6 scorer in 7 of his last 9 games. He’s coming off a 40-point explosion against Philadelphia. And in the 5 games against Kansas City since 2020, he ha 14 TDs to just 2 INTs. In the last 3 matchups, he’s thrown at least 3 TDs every time.
The Chiefs’ defense loves to blitz Allen, but against those looks when they’ve actually generated pressure, he’s completing 73% of his passes. With the difficulty the Chiefs have had generating turnovers, Allen is definitely in play this time.
RB: James Cook (BUF)
Stacking Allen with Cook is totally viable because of his role as a receiver. Since letting Ken Dorsey go, the Bills are 4th in the league in targets to RBs, at 24%. As for Cook himself, he’s had over 20 touches and 100 scrimmage yards in 3 straight games and played every single goal-to-go snap.
The Chiefs are 31st in the NFL allowing 4.8 yards per carry to RBs, and allowed the RB13 or higher in 5 straight games. Cook can get there.
