New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5)
On the surface this may not seem like the game of the week from a football perspective, but these two teams are battling for their division and a spot in the playoffs, and the QBs are both playing really good football lately. From a fantasy perspective, this one could absolutely hit the way we want it to.
Tampa has been a good team to stack around because they have a bad defense that stops the run, and their target tree is fairly thin — we can always predict who’s getting the ball. It’s a similar story for New Orleans.
Fantasy Life’s game hub doesn’t show us anything eye-popping in terms of mismatches, but with everything else going on in this one, we can build a solid lineup.
So which players do we need to focus on when stacking this one? Let’s get into it now.
QB: Baker Mayfield (TB)
It’s been a long time coming for the Baker revival, but he’s finally gotten there. He’s thrown multiple TDs in 7 of his last 9 games, he’s on pace for a career-high completion rate, and his TD rate is his highest since 2020.
The Saints are missing Marshon Lattimore in the secondary, so Baker remains in play again this week.
WR: Mike Evans (TB)
Evans has provided us with a lot of DFS leverage this year, as he’s usually a tad underpriced and underowned. But, he leads the NFL with 13 TDs, he’s 2nd in end zone targets with 20.
Again, he won’t have to line up across from Lattimore, which helps big time, and The Saints are still playing man coverage on nearly 32% of their plays. Evans is targeted on 38.7% of his routes against man with 3.2 yards per route run. He’s just gonna keep doing what he’s done for 10 seasons now, and ball out for us.
RB: Rachaad White (TB)
Rachaad is the unquestioned workhorse back for Tampa Bay. He’s got 22.1 touches per game over his last 5 games, which is 2nd in the league.
Over the last 6 weeks, the Saints are giving up 4.5 yards per carry to RBs, so White should be able to find some running room. The challenge is that the Saints are the best defense in the league at limiting RBs in the passing game, allowing a league-low 5.3 receiving points per game to the position.
WR: Chris Godwin (TB)
Mayfield has now targeted Godwin 10+ times in 3 straight games. He doesn’t find the end zone like Evans does, but he’s getting work and he represents a good way to differentiate your build.
QB: Derek Carr (NO)
Carr has been playing well, and figures to see a lot of blitzes against the Bucs, who blitz at the 3rd-highest rate in the NFL.
Against the blitz, Carr is 6th in completion percentage, 6th in yards per attempt, and has 7 TDs to just 2 INTs. If the Bucs play their game, Carr is more than capable of taking advantage of it.
WR: Chris Olave (NO)
Olave is the obvious first stack partner with Carr. He’s probably still underpriced on DraftKings despite the production he’s had lately, and is going up against that pass funnel Bucs’ defense.
When Carr faces blitz, Olave has 29% of the team targets, and has 2.9 yards per route run. Only 4 NFL players have more total yards against the blitz than OIave: Amon-Ra St. Brown, George Kittle, A.J. Brown, and CeeDee Lamb. That’s great company there.
Additionally, the Bucs are 28th in points per game allowed to opposing WR1s, and they have been giving up monster games to these guys.
Knock ‘em dead today, fans! Enjoy the final normal slate of the year.
The Touchdown Press is a must-read for every NFL fan — pure signal, highly actionable, and one-liners funny enough to make you pee a little bit.
