Arizona Cardinals @ Houston Texans (-4)

I always try to pick a game for this segment that has a healthy total and the potential for a good pace. Even though we have a team that’s sitting at just 2-8, this matchup fits the bill.

The Cardinals have been playing scrappy ball all season, and now that they have Kyler Murray back, the offense is ready to take a step forward. Meanwhile on the Texans, C.J. Stroud is making a strong case for rookie of the year. It’s enough to push the total of this one to 48.5.

Fantasy Life’s game hub seems to favor the Texans’ attack a little more than the Cardinals, but I have no doubt that they’ll be able to keep pace and run a ton of plays on Sunday.

As always, let’s get into the players we need to know for fantasy football and DFS stacking.

QB: C.J. Stroud (HOU)

With the way he’s playing, I have to start with Stroud on the Houston side of this one. He’s been a fantasy QB1 in 6 of his last 8 games played. He’s 3rd in the whole league in yards per pass attempt. His TD to INT ratio is 7.5-to-1 (the next closest is 4.5). The kid is here to stay.

Perhaps most impressive is his deep ball. He’s tied for the league lead in completions 20+ yards downfield. He’s completed 55% of such throws and averages 19.5 yards per pass attempt on them.

As a bonus, the Cardinals defense ranks 28th in the league in pressure rate. With a clean pocket, Stroud has 9.3 yards per pass attempt and 15 TDs.

WR: Tank Dell (HOU)

Even though Nico Collins is coming back this week, and he’s been the team’s WR1, I think it starts with Dell this week.

With Collins out last week, Dell had 14 targets, but even when the two men share the field, Dell edges him out in target share, 23% to 21%.

For the Cardinals, they are allowing a league-high 71.8% catch rate, 9.4 yards per target, and a 5.3% TD rate to opposing WRs.

TE: Dalton Schultz (HOU)

Schultz has had a quietly strong year so far. He’s PPR TE7 believe it or not, and he’s seen a boost since the return of OT Laremy Tunsil. When he was out the team used Schultz as more of a blocker and he ran routes on 64% of the team’s dropbacks. Now that Tunsil is back, Schultz goes out on a route 81.2% of the time.

Schultz represents another in a litany of stacking options with Stroud this week. He’s on the menu for sure.

RB: Devin Singletary (HOU)

The Texans run game exploded last week, allowing Singletary to achieve some career-highs. He got 30 carries for 150 yards.

Would you believe me if I told you the Cardinals are bad against RBs? Yes? They’re:

• 31st in RB TDs allowed (14)

• 29th in rushing points allowed per game (17.1)

• 25th in receiving points allowed per game (10.3)

If Dameon Pierce doesn’t play, Singletary can absolutely be a part of this Houston onslaught.

TE: Trey McBride (ARI)

Contrary to what the casual fans think, McBride didn’t just come out of nowhere in the last 2 games. He was a decorated college TE and he won the John Mackey Award in 2021.

Last week, he became the first Cardinal since 1989 to go over 100 yards in a game, which is a very surprising stat, but also seems to solidify the notion that he’s officially broken out.

This week he has another great matchup. The Texans allow 7.1 catches per game to TEs, and other teams seem to just exploit those matchups. McBride can keep the train rolling.

QB: Kyler Murray (ARI)

I was looking for mobility from Kyler in his return and I’d say he looked pretty good in that area. He had 4 designed runs and broke off a pretty decent scramble when he had to. It was encouraging.

The Texans have now allowed their opponents to score QB1 numbers in 5 straight games, including guys like Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, and Desmond Ridder. Murray is better than all of them.

WR: Marquise Brown (ARI)

Hollywood just missed a longer TD last week, which would have probably inflated his ownership in Week 11, but as of now he’s looking pretty flat. What I like is that he was on the field for 100% of the pass plays.

The other receivers for Arizona are also in play. Michael Wilson had a 92% route participation, but Rondale Moore led the trio in targets with 8. In the end, this roster presents kind of a dealer’s choice at WR.
