Drafting a RB in the 60s gives you four options:
• J.K. Dobbins (BAL) ADP 61.6, RB21
• Elijah Mitchell (SF) ADP 65.8, RB22
• Josh Jacobs (LV) ADP 66.3, RB23
• AJ Dillon (GB) ADP 67, RB24
Let's discuss Dobbins vs. Jacobs today:
On paper, this isn't an easy decision.
Dobbins missed all of '21 with a massive knee injury.
There was damage to his ACL, LCL, and meniscus.
There are reports he may not be ready for Week 1.
However...
Reports out of Baltimore suggest his rehab is on schedule.
His competition at the position is light:
• Gus Edwards is also on the PUP list.
• '21 RBs like Freeman, Bell, and Murray are gone.
• 6th Round pick (Tyler Badie) isn't ready for primetime
Dobbins will start when healthy.
Some experts love Jacobs.
But 4th Round pick Zamir White will eat into his carries.
As will Kenyan Drake, who returns from an ankle problem.
But the biggest issue...
Head coach Josh McDaniels loves a RBBC.
Breaking down Dobbins '20 vs Jacobs '21
• Team Run Plays Per Game: No.1 vs No.29
• True Yards Per Carry: No.1 vs No. 54
• Receptions: No.50 vs No.5
• Evade Tackles: No.18 vs No.7
Both players have their positives and negatives.
If Dobbins were healthy, this would be an easier decision.
Jacobs relied on TDs in the last 3 years to finish Top 15 in FPPG.
His team added Davante Adams (No.1 Target Rate/No.3 Red Zone Targets).
Rough on a player relying on catches and scores to hit his fantasy ceiling.
Dobbins has the Lamar Jackson problem.
Jackson in '21:
• No.1 in Carries Per Game (11.1)
• No.5 in Red Zone Carries (16)
• No.1 in Rushing Yards Per Game (63.9)
• Weirdly was only No.14 in Rush TDs (2)
Does Lamar score more in 2022 and kill Dobbins at the goal line?
Certainly possible, but Dobbins is my guy this year, and that's a chance I'm taking.
People forget...
In 2020, Dobbins was the 24th best fantasy back on a PPG basis.
And he averaged 6 yards per carry!
In fact, that season (per PlayerProfiler):
• No.5 in juke rate
• No.4 in breakaway runs
• No.3 in yards per touch
• No.1 in true yards per carry
Who would you take between the two?
