Knowing the top wide receivers in fantasy football could be step 1 of winning your league this seasonā¦
CeeDee Lamb (DAL), ADP 1.9, WR1
Lamb has improved in every major category for catching passes in each of his professional seasons. In 2023, he was the top fantasy WR, averaging 23.7 points per game. He led the league in total targets with 181, receptions with 135, and red zone targets with 31. But, that wasnāt even the best part. During the fantasy season's end, he never fell below WR16. He had standout finishes as WR4, WR11, WR9, WR1, and WR2. Heās just 25 years old, playing in a familiar offense with Dak Prescott, who led the league with 36 touchdown passes. So, if youāre looking for a game-changing player, CeeDee Lamb should be one of your top picks in the first round.
Tyreek Hill (MIA), ADP 3.1, WR2
Cheetah may be heading into his age 30 season, but I donāt see him slowing down. In 2023, he had 8 weekly performances as a top-five wide receiver, making his fantasy owners happy. But thatās not all - he tied for 2nd in the league in percentage of his teamās air yards with a ridiculous 43%. Despite last summer's Jaylen Waddle hype, Hill proved himself the dominant receiver.
He led the league in yards per route run with 3.80, scored 13 TDs, was 2nd in juke rate, and 1st in route win rate. So, he is still a monster fantasy receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET), ADP 6.0, WR3
You already know the Sun God is one of my guys. I have him at number 3. His consistency sets him apart as one of the few players who could end the season as the top fantasy wideout. He was 2nd in the league with 141 catches. But, his competition remains talented. Sam LaPorta has arrived as one of the gameās top tight ends. Jameson Williams remains a capable WR2 despite his inconsistency. It wonāt matter. Amon-Ra is a top-10 gut in yards per route, red zone targets, juke rate, and fantasy points per route. So, heās a mid-first round pick, and I wouldnāt hesitate to draft him as early as 4th or 5th overall.
JaāMarr Chase (CIN), ADP 4.3, WR4
Chances are Chase will go off the board before St. Brown. Heās got an uncapped ceiling, especially with Joe Burrow. When Shiesty was healthy, Chase had 4 weeks as a top-7 wideout, including a standout 15-catch, 52.2 PPR explosion against the Cardinals. But, Chase fell outside of the top-10 in fantasy points per game for the first time in his career. So, with a healthy Burrow I like Chase to return to the top echelon again.
Puka Nacua (LAR), ADP 10.4, WR5
Puka set records as a rookie with 114 receptions and 1,667 receiving yards. He got comfortable right away, attracting an incredible 35 Matthew Stafford targets in the first 2 weeks of the season. But, that momentum continued even when Cooper Kupp was in the lineup. Puka finished with a 28% target share, which ranked 13th overall. Kupp is now another year older, with more wear and tear on his body. So, as he continues to decline, Puka should rise up and take his place as the Ramsā WR1.
Justin Jefferson (MIN), ADP 5.3, WR6
Despite some significant injury challenges last season, Jefferson still managed to shine as the WR5 with 20.2 points per game. After missing time, he seized his role as the teamās alpha. He garnered 10 or more targets in each of his first 4 games back, culminating in finishes as the PPR WR7 and WR1. On the year, he ranked:
4th in yards per route (2.95)
6th in yards per target (10.7)
13th in yards per catch (15.8)
Jordan Addison is heading into Year 2, but I donāt think heāll take much volume from Jefferson with a developing quarterback situation. So, J.J. is still the receiver who has lit up fantasy scoreboards over the last few years.
A.J. Brown (PHI), ADP 8.8, WR7
Brown was the PPR WR5 in ā23, averaging 17 fantasy points per game. He finished 7th in total yards with 1,456 and commanded over 40% of the Eaglesā air yards. Heās still a beast. But, the numbers did drop off toward the end of the season and the fantasy playoffs. The offensive coaching staff took the fall for that one, and the team hired Kellen Moore to take over the play calling. So, if that works out then Brown should be even better in the stretch run. Look for him in the later part of the first round of your draft.
Garrett Wilson (NYJ) ADP 10.8, WR8
The New York Jets are ready for a fresh start to the Aaron Rodgers era, and my number 8 pick, Garrett Wilson, agrees. Wilson faced challenges last season due to inconsistent QB play in Rodgers' absence. He still emerged as a key target however, ranking 3rd in air yard percentage and 4th in total targets among all WRs. He also led the league in total routes run. But, poor efficiency and scoring caused him to finish outside the top 25 WRs and 32nd in fantasy points per game. He scored just 3 times despite 19 red zone targets. So, with Rodgers back in the mix, thereās optimism that these numbers will improve. Heās a strong pick at the end of round 1.
Brandon Aiyuk (SF), ADP 19.9, WR9*
Aiyuk has requested a trade from San Fransisco, creating fresh uncertainty around his outlook. But, Iām assuming he stays with the 49ers and is on the field for Week 1. If that changes his place in the rankings will adjust accordingly. He is impressive as a deep threat. He ranks 11th in air yards with 1,753, which was 39% of the teamās share. This is noteworthy considering his relatively modest 23% target percentage. So, as long as Aiyuk is with the team when the season opens, I like him to be the WR1 for the 49ers.
Brandon Aiyukās talent alone is enough to get him into my list. He often faces criticism in fantasy circles for his inconsistency, but thatās typical in a crowded offense like the 49ers', though he did just request a trade so weāll attack this
Chris Olave (NO), ADP 18.9, WR10
I'm a big fan of third-year breakouts, and Olave fits the bill. Heās already notched two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career, and now he is the unquestionable go-to guy in New Orleans with Michael Thomas no longer in the picture. But, despite finishing 19th in fantasy points per game, Olave was still building chemistry with Derek Carr. Their growing rapport bodes well for increased production. Olave ranked 6th in total air yards and 4th in deep targets among all WRs. He also ranked 3rd in unrealized air yards, indicating a lot of missed connections. So, if Olave and Carr can improve their connection on those deep throws, heās got the makings of a solid WR1.
