San Francisco 49ers @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+3)
With a healthy O/U of 46.5 and both offenses in the top-10 in points per game, we’re looking for production in this one. Fantasy Life’s Game Hub shows things are looking especially favorable for the RBs, no surprise with names like Christian McCaffrey and Travis Etienne on the rosters.
Both teams are coming off a bye week, so I’m hoping for some fresh legs. The 49ers are looking to set thing straight after 3 consecutive losses, while the Jaguars haven’t lost since September 24th.
If we want to get this one right on DraftKings, we need to look at the numbers and figure out which guys we want to target. Let’s get after it!
QB: Brock Purdy (SF)
In each of the last 2 games before the bye, Purdy completed around 70% of his passes. He had 9.1 and 11.8 yards per pass attempt, and in the last one he rushed for a career-high 57 yards. So despite the timely turnovers, he’s been pretty good for fantasy.
The Jags are 2nd in the NFL in interceptions, but they’re 25th in pressure rate. When Purdy has a clean pocket, his numbers soar:
120.1 QB rating
78% completion rate (1st)
10.4 yards per pass attempt (1st)
Trent Williams’s status was still uncertain as of Saturday, but if he returns, look for a clean pocket and lots of opportunity for Brock.
WR: Brandon Aiyuk (SF)
Did you know Aiyuk is 2nd in the league in yards per route run behind only Tyreek Hill?
Don’t worry about Deebo Samuel’s return, either. When they share the field, Aiyuk gets 31.6% of the team targets to Deebo’s 19%. He’s also the outside guy, which boosts him against Jacksonville. The Jags vs. outside WRs:
7.6% TD rate allowed
29th in catches allowed per game
31st in receiving yards allowed per game
Both volume and TD potential are here.
TE: George Kittle (SF)
I’ve been big on Kittle this week and I liked him in my Prop Drop, but I should mention that when Deebo and Aiyuk are both on the field, the TE has only run 72 routes on the year, and has just an 11% target share.
He could be back to being a TD-dependent TE play.
TE: Evan Engram (JAX)
Power vs. power matchup at this spot.
Engram projects to be big chalk on DraftKings, for good reason. He’s:
2nd in target share
9th in yards per route run
6th in target rate per route run
BUT, he’s really not involved at the goal line, and the 49ers are the toughest matchup for TEs in the NFL. They make those guys work, keeping them to a league-low yards per target and allowing just a 1.5% TD rate.
Be aware of all that before you click Engram.
QB: Trevor Lawrence (JAX)
The physical tools have always been there for Trevor, and the 49ers recently allowed Kirk Cousins to score 21 and Joe Burrow to score 27. In those games, they weren’t able to put a ton of pressure on the passer.
Lawrence is only pressured on 26.9% of dropbacks (4th-lowest), but when he is pressured he completes fewer than half his passes and has the same number of TDs and INTs (3).
So a big key to this game for both teams will be about how clean Trevor Lawrence is at the end of it.
RB: Travis Etienne (JAX)
With 83% of the backfield touches, and a solid chance to score a TD nearly every game, ETN is someone we can trust. In fact, he’s playing about as well as his opponent, CMC.
Before the bye week, the 49ers allowed Joe Mixon to get to 100 yards and a TD. That opportunity could be there for ETN too.
