WE ARE BACK.

It's The Touchdown Press Newsletter. Your #1 source for all things fantasy football, DFS, and sports betting, along with 10,000+ fellow degenerates.

Happy 4th of July! Be safe today. Don’t end up like Jason Pierre-Paul.

Today in 5 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  • One of the best rookie situations 😀

  • The undervaluing of a vet 🤔

  • Who’s more than just a handcuff? 🙏

  • NFL Independence Day news and notes 🎆

Jahmyr Gibbs (DET), ADP 40.3, RB14:

I keep going back to Gibbs because of the unique talent and circumstance combo. It looks like a good situation.

Here are some ‘22 highlights along with some of his best athletic measurements:

• 926 rush yards

• 444 receiving yards

• 4.36 40-time at combine (99th%)

• 53% breakaway rate (5th in draft class)

(per Pro Football Focus)

Departed Lions RBs D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams touched the football 421 times last season.

Those touches will go to both Gibbs and David Montgomery, who's been less efficient (His 3.9 true YPC ranked 50th).

While Montgomery is serviceable as a pass catcher, he doesn’t have the youth or the explosiveness of Gibbs.

Reporters from Lions practices have seen him line up in a variety of places around the offense. He’s been in the backfield as a traditional RB, up in the slot, and even out wide on special occasions (Rotoballer).

That means Dan Campbell and his staff know what they have and are ready to find ways for their rookie to succeed.

You’ll get a nice return on that round 4 draft price.

The opportunity will be there for him to smash the OVER on his PrizePicks prop of 625.5 rush yards.

Aaron Jones (GB), ADP 54, RB17:

Jones continues to be criminally undervalued in fantasy drafts this summer.

A.J. Dillon did handle a lot of the goal line work for Green Bay, but Jones gets serious upside as the 3rd down back.

He finished ‘22 9th in target share (13.4%), and 6th in receptions (59). This is a premiere guy.

Dillon was a distant 43rd in route participation and 29th in target share. He’s not threatening that role.

On top of that, Jones still showed great ability to get loose:

• 14th in juke rate (29.4%)

• 9th in evaded tackles (80)

• 15th in breakaway run rate (6.6%)

QBs like Jordan Love, who are starting for the first time, typically need a good pass-catching back underneath to help take the pressure off.

Those teams may also run the ball more often.

Both of these factors will boost the opportunity quotient for Jones and it’s not crazy to expect career numbers.

Round 5 is still way too late for this guy, and keen managers should take advantage while they can.

D’Andre Swift (PHI), ADP 78.1, RB23:

I’m higher on Swift than others, but hey, I’m optimistic.

He’s joining an offense that, while not targeting RBs quite as much as I would like to see, was high-powered and supported RB15 in Miles Sanders last season.

Combining factors hindered Swift’s consistency, including Injuries, coaching, and Jamaal Williams.

But there’s some intrigue in his numbers:

• 2nd yards per touch (6.3)

• 5th yards per route run (1.78)

• 5th breakaway run rate (8.1%)

Sure there are some potential usage concerns. Jalen Hurts doesn't typically target his backs, and Rashaad Penny will compete for carries.

Still he’s a talent, and there’s something to be said about a guy’s motivation going back and playing for his hometown.

You could do a lot worse on a 7th-round draft pick.

Samaje Perine (DEN), ADP 104.7, RB35:

We’re still waiting on more clarity from Javonte Williams, but Perine should have a role even when Williams is ready.

He’s got skills to be a regular 3rd-down guy:

• 14th yards in per reception (7.6)

• 15th in yards per route run (1.34)

• 11th fantasy points per opportunity (0.97)

In all, he caught 38 balls for 287 yards and rushed 95 times for 394 yards. Not too shabby.

Sean Payton also really likes when guys are capable pass blockers, and Perine ranks highly in that area.

I also like to consider the fantasy point explosion he had when he stepped in for 3 weeks as the starter in ‘22:

• Week 13: 30.2 PPR points

• Week 14: 19.3 PPR points

• Week 15: 21.5 PPR points

He had 3 TDs in that Week 13 game too.

Perine could contribute right away. Either by himself or part of a 1-2 punch with Williams.

He’s an easy choice for a pick if you draft Javonte, and I actually may like him more than Williams regardless.
