Week 5 Starts
Here are 5 guys with the best fantasy matchups this week and why they need to start … in two minutes or less.
|
QB: Justin Fields (NYJ) vs. DAL
Fields’s rushing upside always raises his floor, but what really tilts things this week is the defense he’s facing. Dallas has already given up the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks through four weeks, so Fields’ legs and improvisational playmaking are set up to thrive. He just ripped off 81 rushing yards and a 43-yard touchdown run in Week 4, reminding us of the kind of fantasy ceiling he brings. So even if his passing stays inconsistent, the matchup and his rushing floor make him a locked-in starter.
RB: David Montgomery (DET) @ CIN
David Montgomery is coming off a rough Week 4 where game script and Gibbs’ volume kept him quiet, but just one week earlier he exploded for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns, showing he can still deliver league-winning production when given lanes. The good news is he now faces a Bengals defense that has been shredded all year, giving up the second-most fantasy points to running backs through four weeks. Detroit’s offensive line still grades as one of the league’s better units, so Montgomery is set up as a strong play this week. He’s always a steady runner with touchdown upside against one of the softest RB matchups you’ll find.
RB: Chuba Hubbard (CAR) vs. MIA
Hubbard has held onto the lead job and has caught passes every week, but last week’s blowout capped his carries even as he still led Carolina in rushing and hauled in three more targets. Miami has been a get-right spot for RBs, allowing the 7th-most fantasy points to the position through four weeks, but they now travel on a short week to Charlotte with a defense that’s been leaking production. So start Hubbard in Week 5 as a volume-and-checkdown play: the touch split still tilts his way and this matchup gives him multiple paths to points on the ground and through the air.: Matthew Golden (GB) @ DAL
WR: Xavier Worthy (KC) @ JAX
Worthy came back from injury in Week 4 and immediately played the role of Kansas City’s spark plug. He led the team in targets and ripped off chunk plays of 28, 35, and 37 yards. The Chiefs made it clear they’re still scheming touches for Worthy all over the field. The Jaguars’ defense has already shown cracks against quality opponents, so this sets up as another spot where Worthy’s speed and volume can tilt a fantasy matchup in your favor.
TE: Darren Waller (MIA) @ CAR
Darren Waller is back and already making noise! He only saw four targets in Week 4, but he turned them into two red-zone touchdowns and looked like a trusted option for Tua right away. Carolina has been one of the softest defenses against tight ends, giving up the 6th-most fantasy points to the position so far, so this matchup sets up perfectly for him to keep the momentum rolling. With Tyreek sidelined, the Dolphins need someone to step into that playmaking void, and Waller’s proven he’s ready to capitalize in a plus spot this week.
So that’s the list. 5 players to put into lineups if you have them on your roster… as promised, in 2 minutes or less.
